Cherry Blossoms, Serpents and Fangs - all lurking in the meadow

I can’t get enough of rings. I love collecting them. I already own heaps, most of them inherited from an aunt who got them from India in the 70’s so they are all unique and range from nice and dainty to in your face bling!

I am constantly on the lookout to add to my collection  and jumped around  with excitement when I  found these finger adornments that were affordable and fabulous! I was delighted when I stumbled into the meadow that is meadowlark. I headed straight to the branch that was the rings and picked away. I fancy both simplicity and intricate designs to match my many moods, and this meadow meets all my demands. These were my fav fruits from the meadow….serpents, delicate blossoms and fangs!

Mulberry Shimmy Bag

I love Mulberys aesthetic of keeping their designs simple, classic and versatile. I really want this Mulberry Shimmy Bag! I love a versatile bag, being able to carry it in 2 different ways allow for a different look each time. Its smooth leather, clean cut lines and strong tan colour making it pop. The hardware and its two floppy sides give this bag the edginess and uniqueness that I look for in all the bags I buy...sadly I don't think I am going to be able to own this bag anytime soon unless I suddenly gain a whole lump of money!

Strict Catholic School

I was going through my folder of pics and I thought I would share with you guys one of my fav pics.
This is by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee
His designs are prim but you wouldn't call them boring.
This picture reminds me think of strict Catholic schools where you have to be constantly neat and tidy.
Hair has to be slicked back, out of your face.
The dresses are constructed classicly. Love the classic black shiny brogue styled shoes.
Even the wall in the background reminds me of my old catholic school.

Karen Walker Jewellery

I am always on the look out for quirky fine jewellery, can't stop collecting them. And the very first designer jewellery I fell in love with was our very own Karen Walker. Karen Walker does some amazing simple yet quirky and girly even edgy stuff that can be worn daily, dressed up or dressed down and not look kitsch.

I love it when I stumble across an ad of her jewellery as I am leafing through a magazine. The way she displays her items, makes her designs look even more interesting.

Why Lulu Guinness you’re a genius!

Lulu designs quirky, retro cool and quintessential British. Her handbags are all about bright, bold, girly and lipstick! But I think of them as more rock & roll as opposed to too feminine. I think its because of the boldness and hard lines of them and the lack of frill. Her brand not only carries handbags, you can now decorate your whole room in Lulu's designs.

This coin purse is just too cute.I love coin purses, as you fill them up with the change that comes along, in the end you have a tidy amount in it and can buy yourself a treat maybe a cupcake or a nice sweet bar of soap… or if I am running to catch the bus and need change I know I only need to pick up my trusty coin purse because it will be my savior, I guess to me a coin purse is like a piggy bank, only I can carry my piggy bank with me!

Her red lip clutch is an icon. And here is the lady herself carrying it!

No Bangs, Just Curls

I have always wanted hair like this.

Running thru blogs, there are always endless pics of gorgeous girls with blunt thick bangs. Makes me so sad I cant pull it off. I tried it but alas it just wasn’t for me, for two reasons the first being I have naturally curly hair so maintaining it was a lot of work. The weather was my enemy, the minute it’s a bit humid or it starts to rain all my straightening goes out the window and I have to run for cover looking like a weirdo with a mini fro in the front! Not a look I can carry of at all! Every day I I’d step out the house praying God would be kind to me and not let it rain. I even refused to go swimming or let my hair get wet at the beach because I didn’t want to walk around it heaps of short curly bits in front . The second being it made me look really young, I already look younger than my age but the bangs made me look even younger! You think not possible, yes possible! Bouncers just wouldn’t believe my ID and would ask if I had a second piece of ID on me! No Mr Bouncer I do not carry my passport with me everywhere I go! So I am growing it out and hoping to right the damage I have caused to my hair by straightening it almost every day. I can't wait for it to be all grown out so I can have glorious healthy locks!

My curly hair had always been a bane for me, it was always a tangle of mess. So the minute I could afford straighteners, I was on that bandwagon. GHD has been my saviour but it has also been the cause of my hair damage...shame! With people expressing surprise at discovering I am a natural curly head and complimenting it and telling me why dont I should wear it that way more often. The more I hear the appreciation people have for curls the more I learn to like my natural curls. So one of my resolutions for 2010 is to get my hair healthy again and that means embracing my god given or should I say parents given curly hair. And the ever handy internet provides plenty of inspiration to go au naturel but these girls were my favourites...just gorgeous! So effortless.

Th word ethereal comes in mind when I look at them. Great style too!

Hot Stuff

SPICY!

I can’t remember where or when I first discovered her but her dusky complexion, regal bone structure combined with her sexy kohl lined eyes and strong eyebrows mesmerized me.I love her eyes...all that kohl!Bold and fierce. This Indian beauty is reaching big name status as she has walks for some big names (Hermes, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hussein Chalayan,Givernchy to name a few) and appears in a few big named rags (Vogue, Elle). She keeps her off duty outfits clean and simple. No fuss.

She looks strong and atheletic, just what we need to see on the runway.

Its nice to see diversity in the big name models. I always look forward to seeing what new curves/trends the fashion world has to throw at us and diversity is a major yay! It is a globalised world after all.

Sexy pins!

Wear rubber, stay protected

Zebra! Tiger! Leopard! Sequins! Tell me who wouldn’t want to be seen kicking around in these iconic  beauties!

I already own 2 pairs of Converse, my first a pair of yellow oxford style and the second a pair of all black hitops but adding one or each one of these wouldn’t be too many! How can you say no to glamourous yet comfy shoe wear. These rubbers are so versatile, dressed up or dressed down they add a lil je ne sais quoi. I heart the razzle dazzle sequins and wild animal print…its edginess to the max!

FIERCE!

I’ll have 3D today please

Neeat! 3D nail art is fantastical! Personally I wouldn’t wear it daily but for something fun…hells yeah I’d sport it. Just like everything in fashion, its another way of expressing your style. Its not practical but whoever said fashion was practical…everyday I see women walking around in 5 inch heels, I know and you know they are either suffering now or will be in the future but who cares…if it looks good or you like it! You can find videos on youtube on how to recreate your own 3D nail art at home! Molds can be purchased to make your own nail art too. Check out http://www.mikaj.co.nz/ to buy all you need to go 3D at home. These nail art can range from cutesy to arty fartsy to elegant.

Def an a more adventurous form of nail art. This type of nail art has been around for awhile but I only just discovered it because I'm not usually a fan of nail art….I am a one colour kind of girl. But hey for a lil something fun and different, Hello Kitty anyone?

So cute, so chic, so French! Reminds me of the beautiful Miss Hepburn. This outfit makes me wanna go to a café in Paris eat cupcakes and sip on coffee while smoking and taking in the people around me. I guess for now going to Paris and doing that shall have to wait but I can always do that at my local café. Now to find those outfit items, pretend Miss Hepburn, walk out and enjoy the sun!

Go forth and clash! (with your prints I mean)

Who says you can’t mix patterns…this ensemble proves that statement wrong wrong wrong! Every time I’ve tried to leave my flat in combined different patterns my flatmates send me a disapproving look. I love them girls but by now they should know I LOVE to clash! And it doesn’t always have to be loud. This mix of floral, polka dots and black and white gingham/feathered (can’t really tell) headband with patent black shoes and an adorable pixie haircut is feminine and elegant.

Hah…another great example of mixing, done none other than the queen of indie, Miss Sevigny. Stunning as usual. Mmm…stripes and floral/polka dots (again can’t really tell) with grey socks and booties and a grandpa cardy…tasty! So clash on I say! It might be loud or might be demure but you will never know until you try! Break the rulezzz!
